Calumet Memorial Park Fieldhouse, 612 Wentworth Ave, will be available as a temporary emergency warming center today.

The gym at the Memorial Park Fieldhouse, 612 Wentworth Ave., will not have open gym basketball today. Instead, it will be available as a temporary emergency warming center, should anyone need to get out of the cold. For more details, please call 708-862-6443.

The Senior Services Department rang in the new year a little early at the Calumet City Senior Center on Monday, December 29th. After a delicious dinner from Jimbooo's Restaurant and Catering, seniors were entertained by musical guest Past Life. Elected officials Thornton Township Trustee Norbert Cipowski, Clerk Jacqueline E. Davis-Rivera, and Village of Dolton Trustee Stan Brown joined in the fun. Father Time (Cipowski) even arrived to help with the countdown.

Each year Thornton Township, with the generosity of the community, local businesses, and elected officials, are able to provide some holiday cheer to less fortunate children in Thornton Township. This year we received, sorted, wrapped, and bagged over 5,000 toys and articles of clothing for nearly 600 needy families. On Saturday, December 20th, volunteers, elected officials, and Santa helped us hand out all the donations.
