Tis' the season of giving! Toy and gift donations are piling up at Thornton Township Hall in South Holland. Meanwhile, the Food Assistance Center in Harvey is helping deliver food to the community one box at a time.

Thornton Township and the Human Relations Commission hosted the Spirit of Thornton Township on Saturday, December 6th, 2014. Residents of the community were invited to enjoy holiday songs, hot chocolate, cookies inside Thornton Township Hall. On the front lawn of Thornton Township Hall residents gathered to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus. Eighteen trees, one for each municipality within Thornton Township and one representing the entire community, were lit with the help of Santa, Supervisor Frank M. Zuccarelli, the Thornton Township Trustees and elected officials, Lansing Mayor Norm Abbott, Dixmoor Mayor Dorothy Armstrong, IL State Representative Marcus Evans, and many more.

During this free workshop seniors will learn how to protect their homes and property, how to avoid scams and identify theft, and simple self-defense techniques.

The Senior Services Department hosted Dr. Om Johari for a seminar on the health, psychological, and spiritual benefits of laughter, gratitude, and meditation. Dr. Johari discussed what meditation is, how to meditate, and why people should meditate. Seniors were able to share their experiences with meditation and stress relief.
