About the Clerk’s Office
The Thornton Township Clerk is the official custodian of township records, ensuring transparency by safeguarding public documents, posting legal notices for board meetings, annual town meetings, and special sessions to keep residents informed and engaged.
Documents & Records
All official township records are maintained and made available to the public in accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
Official Duties
- Official custodian of all Thornton Township records
- Maintains minutes of all Township Board Meetings
- Administers oaths to all Township Elected Officials
- Posts legal and public notices for all board meetings and sessions
- Publicizes and conducts the Annual Town Meeting (second Tuesday in April)
- Certifies the annual tax levy
- Conducts bid openings for township goods and services
Resident Services
Free Notary Services
Certified Notaries are available at no charge, Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–4:00 PM. Two forms of ID required (at least one with photo), all signers must be present, and documents must be complete except for signature. Contact: (708) 596-6040 ext. 3118.
Disabled Parking Placards
Temporary placards are issued immediately upon receipt of a completed physician-signed application. Permanent placards require a “Persons with Disabilities Certification for Parking Placard” form — we submit to the Secretary of State and issue a 30-day temporary placard while you wait.

IDNR Fishing & Hunting Licenses
The Clerk’s Office sells Illinois Department of Natural Resources fishing and hunting licenses. Visit us during regular business hours.
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
All public records are available for inspection or copying in accordance with the Illinois FOIA. The Clerk serves as the township’s designated FOIA Officer. Requests may be submitted online through our secure portal or in writing at Township Hall.
