SMS Terms & Conditions

These SMS Terms & Conditions (“SMS Terms”) govern your participation in the text messaging program offered by Thornton Township (“Thornton Township,” the “Township,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By opting in to receive text messages from the Township, you agree to these SMS Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not opt in to the program.

Program Description

Thornton Township offers an SMS (text message) program to send notifications, alerts, reminders, and updates related to Township services, programs, and events. Depending on the programs you sign up for, messages may include:

• Service notifications
• Appointment reminders
• Program updates (such as the Thornton Assistance Program and food assistance services)
• Community announcements
• Emergency or weather alerts

How to Opt In (Consent)

You may enroll in the Township’s SMS program by submitting your mobile number through one of our enrollment methods — for example, by completing a sign-up form on our Site, texting a keyword to our number, or otherwise providing express written consent to receive text messages from the Township.

By opting in, you confirm that you are the account holder or have the account holder’s permission for the mobile number you provide, and that you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from the Township at that number. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of receiving any Township service, program, or benefit.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies and depends on the programs you have opted in to and your interactions with the Township.

Message and Data Rates

Message and data rates may apply. Any charges are billed by, and payable to, your mobile service provider. Please contact your wireless carrier for details about your text and data plan.

How to Opt Out

You can cancel the SMS program at any time by replying STOP to any text message you receive from us. After you reply STOP, we will send you one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. After that, you will no longer receive text messages from that program unless you opt in again.

If you change or deactivate the mobile number you provided, you are responsible for notifying us so that we do not send messages intended for you to a number that has been reassigned to someone else.

Supported Carriers and Carrier Disclaimer

The SMS program may be available through major U.S. wireless carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery of messages is subject to effective transmission by your wireless carrier and is not guaranteed.

Your Privacy

We respect your privacy. Information collected as part of the SMS program is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

No mobile information (including your phone number and SMS opt-in or consent data) will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We may share your information only with the service providers that help us operate the SMS program (such as our messaging platform), and those providers are restricted to using your information solely to deliver the messaging service on our behalf. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties for their own purposes.

Eligibility

The SMS program is intended for users located in the United States who are the account holders of, or are authorized to use, the mobile numbers they enroll. You must be of legal age to enter into these SMS Terms, or have the consent of a parent or guardian.

Changes to These SMS Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date below. Your continued participation in the SMS program after a change becomes effective means you accept the updated SMS Terms.

Governing Law

These SMS Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
