About Supervisor Harris

Napoleon B. Harris III is the elected Supervisor of Thornton Township and currently serves as Illinois State Senator and Assistant Majority Leader in the Illinois General Assembly. As Township Supervisor, he is responsible for overseeing the delivery of essential government services and programs to residents across 17 municipalities in south suburban Cook County.

Supervisor Harris is committed to ensuring that every resident has access to the support they need — from emergency financial assistance and senior services to food resources and community programs — with dignity and genuine care. Under his leadership, Thornton Township has expanded its service offerings and strengthened its commitment to transparency and accountability.

Office Responsibilities

The Supervisor serves as the chief executive officer of the township, overseeing day-to-day operations and coordinating services across all departments. The Supervisor also manages the township budget and presides over the Board of Trustees.

Legislative Service

In addition to his role as Township Supervisor, Senator Harris serves the 15th District in the Illinois Senate, where he has championed legislation supporting working families, education, public safety, and economic development in the south suburbs. His dual role gives Thornton Township a powerful voice at both the local and state level.
