About the Thornton Assistance Program

The Thornton Assistance Program (TAP) is a community service initiative administered by Thornton Township's Senior Services Department. TAP provides weekly lawn care from May through October to eligible seniors and residents with disabilities across all 17 municipalities served by Thornton Township. The program is designed to help those on fixed incomes maintain safe, well-kept properties without the physical or financial burden of lawn maintenance.

Who Qualifies

To be eligible for TAP lawn care services, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Age 60 or older, or have a qualifying disability
  • Reside within one of the 17 municipalities served by Thornton Township
  • Be on a fixed income with limited financial resources
  • Have no able-bodied individuals in the household capable of performing lawn care
  • Own or rent the property at which service is requested

Eligibility is reviewed annually. Returning clients must re-certify each program year.
